More High Cortisol Symptoms - High Blood Pressure and Chest Pains

More high cortisol symptoms - high blood pressure and chest pains

I have recently discovered a new twist on the effect that high cortisol can have on the human body.

I already knew that high cortisol can cause raised blood pressure. I now have more of an understanding of the mechanism behind this.

I also now know that high cortisol can cause chest pains and symptoms like Angina.

High cortisol makes the body more sensitive to the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline, which in turn cause vasoconstriction, or reduced blood flow.

Cortisol is also an antidiuretic and causes the body to retain sodium. Both these last effects can raise blood pressure (which can be a symptom high cortisol).

So high/raised cortisol makes the body respond more to normal levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline and can therefore cause vasoconstriction which in turn can cause chest pains (which can mimic angina).

Here is an article on this: https://breakingmuscle.com/health-medicine/the-ups-and-downs-of-cortisol-what-you-need-to-know

I hope you found this interesting.

Best wishes,

Paul
